Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is coming to MacVideo in accordance with McMaster’s digital security strategy.

Multi-factor authentication is a way to protect your McMaster email, Avenue to Learn and MacVideo accounts. Also known as two-step verification, MFA adds an extra layer of security to help prevent others from accessing your email and account — even if they have your password.

MFA works by requiring something else, beyond just a password, to prove that you are who you say you are. In addition to your password, your account will be protected by “something you have,” such as a smart phone, mobile phone or a hardware token.

All McMaster staff, faculty, professors emeriti are required to use MFA on their McMaster Microsoft account.

What will change?

  • When you log into the MacVideo website you will be prompted for MFA authentication with your MacID.

Do I need to do anything?

  • There is no immediate action needed on your part. MacVideo authentication is being updated to match the methods already used for Avenue to Learn and Microsoft 365.
  • Make sure to have your method of MFA available when logging into the MacVideo website.
